Shaper to the stars With almost forty years of surfboard shaping under his belt, Ron House has worked with many of the world's top surfing and windsurfing professionals, and is the shaper of choice for Laird Hamilton, shaping his personal standup paddleboards as well as the production Laird Hamilton Model. Ron started shaping at Surfboards Hawaii in Encinitas in 1968 and never looked back! Later that year he moved to Hawaii, pulled by the call of big perfect waves and warm, tropical water. Gone to Hawaii! Ron continued his shaping career on the Big Island and Oahu's North Shore, the epicenter of world-class surfing. On the North Shore, Ron shaped for many of the major shops, including Surfline Hawaii, Lightning Bolt, Tropical Blends, Hawaiian Island Creations and Local Motion. Ron became the favorite shaper of many of the era's top surfers, such as Jeff Hackman, Mike and Derek Ho, Hans Hedeman, Brian Suratt, and others, using their expert feedback to refine his designs and techniques, developing clean, stylish shapes that worked their magic in the demanding North Shore surf. Windsurfers too When the new sport of windsurfing hit the North Shore, Ron expanded his horizons both geographically and technically, shaping beautiful wave windsurfboards in Hawaii and France, where windsurfing was rapidly evolving and progressing. Ron's eclectic approach to shaping water vehicles led him to many experiments and variations on the theme - he's shaped every kind of board, from kneeboards and surfboards to channel crossing paddleboards, big wave guns, and everything in between. Standup paddleboards When standup paddleboarding began its dramatic rebirth a few years ago, Ron was hooked! He became an avid standup paddleboarder, and used his years of expertise in board design of all types to develop the ultimate standup paddleboards. These days Ron lives and surfs in San Clemente, where he rides standup paddleboards daily, and provides top-quality paddleboards to clients in the mainland, Kauai, Oahu, and the Big Island.
